Autonomous Detection and Deterrence of Pigeons on Buildings by Drones

Pigeons may transmit diseases to humans and cause damages buildings, monuments, other infrastructure. Therefore, several control strategies have been developed, but they found be either ineffective or harmful animals often depend on human operation. This study proposes a system capable of autonomously detecting deterring pigeons building roofs using drone. The presence position were detected in real time by neural network images taken video camera located the roof. Moreover, drone was utilized deter animals. Field experiments conducted real-world urban setting assess proposed comparing number their stay durations for over five days against 21-day-trial experiment without During experiments, automatically deployed 55 times significantly effective reducing birds causing any harm them. In conclusion, this has proven effectiveness birds, approach can seen as fully autonomous alternative already existing methods.
